When it comes to sharing and reading e-books, the PDF format is the most used. Still, despite its popularity, PDF files have some downsides. They require an application called Adobe Reader in order to be opened, which can take a lot of system resources, depending on the file's complexity. On the other hand, PDF files take up a lot of hard disk space, especially if they contain complicated graphics.

An alternative to the PDF format is DJVU, a special file format which is mostly used for sharing e-books over the Internet, as it has a lower size than regular PDF files and can also be opened on slower computers. An application which allows you to read DJVU files is WinDjView. As the name clearly states, this Windows program was specially designed for viewing DJVU files, no matter their size or complexity.

After installing and running the program, all the user needs to do is point to the location of the desired DJVU file. Alternatively, he can directly click on the desired DJVU file, as WinDjView is automatically integrated into Windows after installing it. When opening DJVU files, WinDjView allows the user to zoom in or out, pan, view the document in full screen, add bookmarks and even export it as a regular text file. Viewing DJVU files in WinDjView is done in a more fluent way than using PDFs and Adobe Reader.
